🚀 Study Case Luca

EdTech, Mexico

This engagement research case study on Luca EdTech identifies that the sharp drop in student motivation after the novelty effect is not a pedagogical issue nor a school adoption problem, but rather an experience design challenge: the platform relies on a passive, linear educational model driven by extrinsic rewards, which fails to sustain intrinsic motivation in the medium term.

Drawing on frameworks such as Self-Determination Theory, Flow, and Hedonic Adaptation, the analysis shows that Luca falls short in providing identity, purpose, learner agency, and community—key elements for sustained engagement.

The proposal outlines a product transformation—from “consumable lessons” to identity-driven missions, learning archetypes, formative feedback, and collaborative dynamics— with the goal of improving retention, voluntary use, and perceived value for students, teachers, and families.
